Islamic Tour to Spain and Morocco

Travel VIP on this Islamic Spain and Morocco tour package for...

In the late 8th century, Europe experienced one of its most significant cultural and spiritual enlightenment periods at the peak of Spain’s Islamic Civilization. Over eight hundred years of Islamic presence in Spain, Muslims, Jews, and Christians lived together and prospered in a thriving multicultural civilization. Historians refer to this era as co-existence that reached the apogee of universal human civilization; even Spaniards today still celebrate it as “La Convivencia.” This era has created an atmosphere where remarkable scholars and thinkers of different faiths work side by side and share at no discretion collective knowledge for the benefit of all humankind to make lasting contributions in such areas as poetry, art, architecture, music, science, agriculture, medicine, engineering, algebra, navigation, textiles, culinary and even technologies that have shaped the world we live in today. Initially, this civilization flourished in Muslim Spain or, in better words, the Moors of Spain.

Today, Spain is a catholic country, and Spaniards never discriminate against other beliefs. Over two million Muslims live with their fellow Christians in harmony and mutual respect. The Muslim community also respects the norms of prayers and has its infrastructure well set for visitors of the Islamic faith. You will find mosques and places set for prayers, halal markets, and restaurants to enjoy all the staples unique to this land. However, people here are not used to seeing people praying in streets and public places. One has to be sensitive to others’ perspectives. Bearing in mind that Spain as a country had separated the religion from the politics and law, we can see that is nothing against Islam, but in general is not well seen to pray (Christian or Muslim) in a place which is not a temple (church, mosque, etc).

Alcazar Tours offers memorable Islamic Heritage journeys and trips to Spain and Morocco for small groups and private tours to take Muslim visitors through an engaging, insightful tour into this critical period in world history. Enjoy and explore the forgotten Islamic civilization of Spain guided by local Spanish Muslims. Enjoy this sample of our Muslim tours to Spain scheduled as tour packages. But if you prefer independent travel to Spain and Morocco, we will be happy to personalize a unique private tour that would meet your travel time and budget. Our Spain tour packages include Meeting you at the airport of Madrid as you arrive, all local transportation, 4* hotels with breakfast, local Spanish Muslim guides and entrance fees to sights we visit, museums and other monuments, all taxes, and more…

The most ancient of the imperial capitals and the most complete medieval city of the Islamic world, Fez is reminiscent of a city suspended in time, unfazed by the constantly evolving world outsides of its walls. Fez owes nothing to the Western world, save electricity. Time spent in Fez will reveal much about the sophistication of the Moroccan artisan, providing an unparalleled learning experience to those who cross its path. Not even a bicycle is able to be used as tool of transportation. Only donkeys, mules and horses are able to help moving all what the city produces and needs as supplies.

You will break for lunch then continue exploring the marvels of Fez Medina. These will highlight the Dyers souk, Foundouk Tetouani and the shrine of Sidi Ahmed Tijani. You will end your walk at foundouk Lihoudi where a local Fez family will host you for traditional mint tea in their home. Finally, you will return to your hotel for dinner and other accommodations.

Day 8Fez - Azrou - Khenifra - Marrakech

You will spend your day discovering the rural environs of the Atlas Mountains’ Berber villages, wards, and nomadic settlements. Covered with evergreen pines, tall cedar trees, and poplars and laced with flowing streams, your first view of the Middle Atlas will appear oddly un-Moroccan. Passing by Immouzzer, with a quick stop at the Swiss-like town of Ifrane, you will soon come across the first real town of the Middle Atlas, Azrou. Azrou is an important market center for the region’s Berber tribes, located at a major junction of mountain routes. Your driver will take a little detour in a cedar forest to introduce you to one of the oldest inhabitants of this region, the Barbary apes. This may also coincide with the encounter of a nomadic family at its temporary encampment. As nomads are very hospitable people, we are invited at least for a mint tea under their tents whenever we encounter them.

At Azrou, We will take the road towards El Hajeb to connect with the highway to Marrakech. Finally, we will reach the foothills, which overlook the magnificent oasis city of Marrakech Alhamra. Some of the aforementioned stops will include visits to Berber villages, scenic views, and traditional markets. You will conclude your day with dinner and other accommodations at your hotel.

Day 9Marrakech historic Tour

You will devote your morning to the exploration of Marrakech’s many historical sites, starting at the Menara, a magnificent pool surrounded by flowerbeds, reflecting the image of an exquisite Moorish edifice. It was constructed in 1866 for dignitaries, who enjoyed glorious sunsets with the ethereal Atlas Mountains as a backdrop. The pool also functions as an innovative irrigation system that is serving dry life in the desert. Your tour will cover many impressive sites, including the Koutoubia Minaret (which is identical to la Giralda, a tower found in Sevilla, Spain), and the Saadien tombs, which demonstrate Moorish architecture at its best. The tombs consist of sixteenth-century mausoleums, which had lain walled-in and undiscovered until 1917. Next, you will explore the gardens of the Agdal then the Marjorelle. Finally, you will return to your hotel for dinner and other accommodations.

You will return to Marrakech for dinner and other accommodations at your hotel.

Great trip to Morocco. Miloud our driver was the best and took great care of us. It was awesome to have wifi in the car on the long driving days. I was surprised by our tent in the desert, it had all the comforts: sink, shower, toilet, and beds. Miloud always found us great lunch stops and two of us didn’t eat meat so he always made sure there were food options for us. There is no way I could have experienced all that we did in Morocco without this great tour. We had specialized guides in each location and they were also good and took care of us, especially on the mild hike day that was actually quite scary and hard for me. Wonderful experience, love Morocco and Miloud.

The driver Ali was just out of this world. He is an excellent ambassador for Morocco. Obeyed all the traffic rules and one felt very safe with his driving and guidance explaining the relevance of the various sites we visited. I would recommend this trip to all that would like to visit Morocco. The Saraha desert was an experience of a life time…coupled with the Atlas mountains and the cities as well as the rural areas made this trip really memorable. Shopping in the madinas slim allay’s watching carpet weaving and argon oil manufacture was truly a learning experience especially tasting of the different types of dates which was all delightful. Thank you Ali and most important Khalil for making this possible.

My wife has provided a separate review. I (Mohammed Javed) am adding a bit on my own. Both the guides, Adnan for Spain and Nisrin for Morocco were excellent, very cooperative and helpful. Suffice it to say that say that with both the guides, we were like a family and enjoyed the trip fully. Adnan, while departing said, “You are like my father.” I responded, “you are like my son.” At the beginning of the tour in Morocco, I asked Nisrin, what shall I call you, niece or a sister? She preferred that I call her a sister. We revised our itinerary to add Marzouga and had a sand bath for my two arthritic legs. Hammadi did it, though done only once the process acted like a magic and you would be surprised that after that I abandoned my walking stick and was able to climb a high sand dune to watch sun set. Nisrin offered to help me climb and the camel rider too – out of modesty, I hesitated to get the support of her shoulder and immediately she said that I am your sister, feel free to rest your hand. It was a touching compliment and I still remember her feeling and affection for me. Thank you Nisrin. In Toledo, Spain, my wife accidentally dropped my walking stick into a ravine, Adnan went and fetched it though it was not an easy task. He used to call my stick, “‘Assa Mousa” or stick of Mousa (peace be on him) and used to say that there is lot of blessing in the walking stick.
